Science Magazine Web Submissions

Welcome to Science's
Submission Website for Solicited Manuscripts.

Submitting through this site will expedite processing of your paper.

The following screens will guide you through the electronic submission process for submitting a Solicited Manuscript to Science. Please note our general instructions for authors.

After you log in, you will first be asked to fill out a conflict of interest form (click here for our policy and a copy of the forms) and complete an exclusive Publishing License via a click-through (click here for more information on this License). Please have relevant conflict of interest information ready for yourself and all co-authors, and for the license, your title and author list. Note that once you have filled out and transmitted these forms, you will not be able to make any revisions to them via this WWW site. Any proposed modifications must be sent directly to the Science editorial office. You can, however, complete these forms and return later to upload your files. You can also decide to send us a hard copy rather than filling out the forms online.

For most solicited manuscripts (except Reviews) we prefer to receive your text as a MS Word file and figures as PDF, EPS, or JPG files. If you are working in LaTeX, please see our instructions and use our LaTeX template, and include both a PS file and the source files in your upload.  For Reviews only, allowable file formats are Word (.doc), .EPS, .PS, .PDF and .PRN files.

We can also receive your paper as a PDF file, but please also include an editable text file in the upload. Our submission site will ask you to verify or add information on the following fields. Some information will already be entered. Please correct this information as appropriate:

  • Names and addresses, including email addresses, of all authors
  • Text version of the title and abstract (you can paste this in from your manuscript file); Please correct the title.
  • A text version of the cover letter. Please provide future contact and any travel information for the corresponding author (and alternate contacts if appropriate). Please do not upload a "cover letter" file.

Our submission site allows you to return repeatedly to the site and update information BEFORE completing your final submission. You can use your User ID and password to return at any time to complete your submission. You can also use your Web Submission ID, which you will see once you click continue below. However, once you indicate that a submission is complete, you will not be allowed to update files via this web site, unless we detect an error (you will be notified; see below). If you later find that you have uploaded an incorrect file or have not uploaded your complete manuscript, please contact the Science editorial office (science_editors@aaas.org).

After you have submitted a manuscript, we will check the files you have uploaded to be sure that they are readable and in a correct format. We will notify you, usually within one weekday, of any errors by email and may ask you to upload one or more files again. If this is the case (that is, if you receive an email from us describing the error) you should follow the third link and use your Web Submission ID number to update your submission.

This form is for submission of Science manuscripts only. Supplemental material, such as related papers that are not yet published, should be sent by mail to the appropriate address below. Please include your submission ID as reference.
